ABOUT US

Prospectus

The Centre for Godavari River Basin Management (cGodavari) is a collaborative initiative focused on addressing the pressing environmental challenges facing the Godavari River Basin. Our commitment lies in promoting sustainable management and conservation practices across the states that the river traverses. Formed through a Memorandum of Agreement involving the Ministry of Jal Shakti (Government of India), IIT Kanpur, and a consortium of IIT Hyderabad and other institutes, our mission is to develop comprehensive management plans that restore and preserve the ecological integrity of the Godavari River and its tributaries.

Mandate

The charter of the Centre for Godavari River Basin Management outlines our core responsibilities and objectives:

  • Developing the Godavari River Basin Management Plan (GRBMP).
  • Ensuring the effective implementation and continuous improvement of the plan through strategic interventions.
  • Formulating action plans that integrate environmental, social, and economic factors, with measurable outcomes to assess their impact on river systems.
  • Promoting inter-sectoral coordination for a holistic approach to river basin management.
  • Facilitating stakeholder engagement to foster an integrated approach to river restoration and conservation.

Mission

Our mission at the Centre for Godavari River Basin Management is to restore the ecological health and integrity of the Godavari River Basin while ensuring sustainable management of its resources. We are dedicated to preserving the natural ecosystems of the river and its tributaries by maintaining continuous and unpolluted water flows, protecting biodiversity, and supporting the socio-economic needs of the region through sustainable development practices.
